RAGBRAI 51 will be one of hilliest rides on record and this ride to Ivanhoe Road is designed to drain the batteries of e-bikes and the willpower of traditional bike riders in preparation for RAGBRAI. So, expect hills - some with more than 5% incline with others being over a 10% incline.
Gather at the Czech Village Clock Tower at 7:45 - park wherever you can find parking. When we leave at 8:00, we'll head toward a couple hills in southeast Cedar Rapids which have a 12% incline. We’ll gather at the corner of Mt. Vernon Road and Highway 13. There will be relief as we ride to Mt. Vernon with hills of only 2-3% incline. A rest stop is planned at the gas station across from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon.
We'll head to Highway 1 and the 12% incline at the Ivanhoe Road turnoff. Survivors will gather at Rogers Grove Cemetery and then finish the Ivanhoe Road hills before heading to Ely on the hills of Jappa Road. We’ll have a rest stop at the gas station in Ely before riding the relatively flat CVNT back to Czech Village Clock Tower.
Approximately 45 miles. Expected speed is 14-17 mph.
Ride Leader is Bill Utterback.
