HBA Bicycle Rodeo Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 4-8 pm “Bike Rodeos teach children real-world biking survival skills necessary to ride smart and ride safely!”
What Is a Bicycle Rodeo? A bicycle rodeo is a hands-on event where children (typically between the ages of 4 to 13) learn and practice basic cycling skills, with an emphasis on bicycle safety. The event takes place in a large paved area, like a parking lot, that is closed to vehicle traffic. Children will move through a series of “stations” which may include: Registration, Helmet Fit, Bicycle Check, Instruction on Traffic Signs/Hand Signals/Bike Handling, and a Simulation Course. The simulation course lets the child demonstrate bike handling (e.g. starting, stopping, steering, and awareness), adherence to traffic signs (e.g. stop, yield, etc.), proper hand/voice signals, and multi-use trail etiquette.
When & Where The HBA Bicycle Rodeo is being planned for Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 4-8 pm in the Geonetric parking lot near the Newbo Market (see map). This event is part of the Cedar Rapids “Bike-to-Work” week activities, and timed to draw from the normal Thursday “Meet Me at the Market” cycling event.
The club will need about two dozen volunteers to staff the stations and monitor the safety course, as well as help direct participants. Please contact David Krueger to volunteer or find out more: Email: David-Krueger@mchsi.com or via text to (319) 450-2365
